Wisconsin Sheriff & Deputy Sheriff Association Legislative Information

WS & DSA Government Relations – “a highly respected voice for Wisconsin’s county law enforcement team.”

The WSDSA Government Relations Office monitors thousands of legislative proposals, and administrative rules and advocates for member interests in the Governors Office and before the Wisconsin Legislature at the State Capitol in Madison. These efforts greatly benefit Wisconsin’s 72 county sheriffs, and thousands of their deputies, jailers, and retirees.

The Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association provides an active role in shaping today's important public policy initiatives. This includes negotiating the political landscape through out the whole state, in supporting legislation that helps county law enforcement, and fighting bad legislation.

The Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association (WSDSA), with over 3,000 active and retired members, is the largest county law enforcement association in the state. WSDSA has been serving law enforcement and the public for 65 years. Its purpose is to promote the general public welfare in the State of Wisconsin through the cooperation of Sheriffs, Deputy Sheriffs and Jail Officers in the performance of their daily duties.

Wisconsin’s 72 constitutionally elected county sheriffs provide vital public protection to ensure the safety of over 5.5 million Wisconsin citizens, including working families, school children, senior citizens and their property; along with the safety needs of the public and private sectors of Wisconsin’s economy. Sheriffs perform these tasks by maintaining our critical 911 dispatch centers, patrolling thousands of miles of county roads and state highways, protecting the 249 circuit courts, and keeping jails orderly and safe for over 12,000 inmates, all on a 24-7-365 basis.
